Reroofing Vs. Roof Replacement

Typically, when we think of replacing the roof, it’s an entire roof replacement. But did you know that you could reroof your roof?

If you think your roof might be due for replacement because there are cracks, rot, and leaks, you might be able to choose to reroof it instead. Reroofing is more convenient on the wallet and has similar results as replacement.

Roof Replacement- Is the process of completely removing all existing shingles, roof materials, and underlayment and replacing them with all new. Once removed, the exposed wood is inspected for damage, rot, and improper installation. If any damage is found, it will need to be corrected prior to installing the new roof. When the repairs are completed, the new underlayment is installed and covered with a new layer of shingles.

Reroofing- Is the process of making small repairs to shingles to create a smooth surface that will hold the new shingles. It might be necessary to replace the roof flashings first. After the roof has been prepared, the new layer of shingles is installed over the existing set of shingles.

For it’s cost effectiveness, reroofing is the favored option for homeowners and is also beneficial for a faster completion timeframe. However, reroofing is not for all roofs. If your roof is unsuitable for reroofing, replacement is necessary.
